The Great Sins
Seventy Sins that Allah ๏ฃLikes That We Forsake
31- The Thirty First Great Sin: Eating Pork or Dead Animals or Animals Slaughtered for Other than Allah
There are two conditions for meat to be Halal:
1- That it be slaughtered no strangled or killed in any other way,
2- That the person performing the slaughtering be a muslim or a person from the people of the Book (Jewish or Christian).
Ibn Abbas ๏ซ said: โThe Prophet ๏งprohibited eating any predators whether animals with fangs or birds with talonsโ.(1) It is also forbidden to eat frogs, snails and bugs, but it is permissible to eat spiny-tailed lizards (Uromastyx) and locusts, as well as fished sea animals or dead fish.
32- The Thirty Second Great Sin: Vanity and Satisfaction with Oneself
Vanity is a feeling of pride with oneself and satisfaction with oneโs deeds or words. Vanity entails the person not to see their deficiencies and mistakes, and to attribute success to oneself and not to the Grace of Allah. Vanity also prevents the feeling of remorse over wrongdoings, and prevents the feeling of shame for being negligent with oneโs duties towards Allah. It is also vanity to admire oneโs own opinion. There are four words that bring demist to the servant: I- We- Mine- I have. Imam Sakandari says that at the root of any transgression, disobedience, heedlessness and lust is vanity and at the root of obedience vigilance and chastity is dissatisfaction with oneself. The company of an ignorant person who is dissatisfied with himself is better for a person than the company of a scholar who is self satisfied. An indication of self content is the joy one feels with oneโs deeds and sayings, while grace should always be attributed to Allah and gratefulness should be shown to Him as He says ๏ฃ: ๏ดพSay, in the grace and mercy of Allah let them rejoice, for these are better than the worldly riches they hoard๏ดฟ.(2)
Scholars distinguished between vanity and arrogance. They say: if a person is happy and pleased with his own work, money, beauty, intelligence or clothes, he suffers from vanity;
and if he disdains people and degrades their deeds and acts condescendent towards them, or physically or verbally assaults them, or harms them in writing or with pointing them out, and thinks that he is better than them, then this is described as arrogance.
Aisha ๏ฉnarrates that the Prophet ๏งsaid: โDo good deeds properly, moderately, and sincerely and receive good news because oneโs good deeds will not allow him into Paradise. They asked: even you O Messenger of Allah? He said: even me, unless and until Allah bestows His Pardon and Mercy on me.(3)
Allah ๏ฃsays: ๏ดพAs for the abode of the Hereafter, We shall assign it to those who seek neither self glory on earth nor corruption๏ดฟ(4). He ๏ฃ also says: ๏ดพDo not walk proudly on the earth๏ดฟ(5). In fact, vain people do seek self glory and walk proudly on the earth reflecting a sense of self importance.
33- The Thirty Third Great Sin: Falsehood in most of Oneโs Speech
Lying is consciously conveying other than the truth of things, or making up unreal stories. It is the opposite of truthfulness in speech and action. Ibn Masoud ๏จ๏ said: the Prophet ๏ง said: โAdhere to the truth, for truth leads to virtue and virtue leads to Paradise; and the man who continues to speak the truth and endeavors to tell the truth is recorded truthful with Allah; and beware of falsehood for falsehood leads to wickedness and wickedness leads to Hell; and the man who continues to tell lies and endeavors to tell lies is recorded as liar with Allahโ(6).
Allah ๏ฃsaid: ๏ดพ Certainly, Allah does not guide the one who is a transgressor and liar๏ดฟ(7). The license to lie was given in three cases only: in war, in reconciling people, and in the speech of the man to his wife or the woman to her husband (as in praising each other to strengthen the bond of love). The Prophet ๏ง say: โHe who makes peace and reconcile people by inventing information is not a liarโ(8). Ibn Shehab also said: I did not hear of any exemptions to speak lies except in three cases: In war, in reconciling people and in the speech of the man to his
wife or the woman to her husbandโ.(9)
34- The Thirty Fourth Great Sin: Corrupt Judgement
This includes any person who judges between two people based on oneโs likings and not based on the rulings of Allah. Allah ๏ฃsaid: ๏ดพThose who do not judge by what Allah ha sent down are wrongdoers๏ดฟ(10). Allah also said: ๏ดพThose who do not judge by
what Allah has sent down are defi antly disobedient๏ดฟ.(11)
Al Hakim also adjusted Hadith Buraida ๏จ who said that the Prophet ๏ง said: โTwo judges are in Hell and one judge in Paradise. A judge who has ruled with veracity is in Paradise and a judged who has ruled unjustly is in Hell, and a judge who has ruled with ignorance is in Hell. They asked whatโs the sin of the one who is ignorant, he answered: His sin is to be a judge
without knowledgeโ.(12)
35- The Thirty Fifth Great Sin: Bribery
Bribery is one of the greatest sins. Allah ๏ฃ said: ๏ดพThey listen eagerly to falsehood and devour forbidden things voraciously๏ดฟ(13) Al Hassan and Saeed Bin Jubair said: Forbidden things are
bribes. Allah ๏ฃsaid: ๏ดพDo not consume one anotherโs property by unjust means nor offer it as a bribe to the authorities, so that you may deliberately and wrongfully devour a part of other peopleโs wealth๏ดฟ(14). Abdullah bin Amr ๏ซ๏ said: โThe Prophet ๏งcursed the venal and the briberโ.(15)

Supplications (Istighfar)
- O Allah, forgive me my sins, my ignorance, and my excessiveness in my affairs, and what You know better than me. O Allah, forgive me my serious and trivial mistakes, my unintentional and deliberate ones, and all of these are before You.
- O Allah, forgive me what I have done and what I have left behind, what I have hidden and what I have revealed, and what You know better than me. You are the One who advances and You are the One who delays, and You have power over everything.
