The Greatest of Sins
Seventy Sins that Allah ๏ฃLikes That We Forsake
Building on the last blog about The Greatest of Sins โฆ.
Four of the greatest of sins are committed by the TONGUE:
5- The Fifth Great Sin: Perjury, Witnessing Wrongfully
Perjury is the act of witnessing wrongfully and lying to achieve a certain evil purpose such as harming a soul or taking money unlawfully or permitting a prohibition or prohibiting a permissible. Perjury means lying under oath in front of a ruler or a manager while knowing it is wrong. This entails a lot of damage in rights and justice and it means to help wrongdoers and giving moneys and rights to undeserving parties. It also entails lack of security as it encourages crime and corruption with such evil help. (1)
Allah ๏ฃsaid: ๏ดพDo not follow what you do not know; for the ear and the eye and the heart shall all be called to account๏ดฟ. (2)
Another proof of this is what has been relayed by Al Bukhari and Muslim (wording of Al Bukhari) from Abi Bakr may Allah be pleased with him that the Prophet ๏ง said: โShould I not inform you about the gravest of the major sins?โ and the companions said yes O Prophet of Allah! And he said: โAssociating anyone with Allah, the killing of a person, and disobedience to parents. Then he sat upright aft er he was leaning down and further said: O and the false testimony and he kept repeating the latter until we wished he would stop.โ (3)
6- The Sixth Great Sin: Taking a Wrongful Oath
Taking a Wrongful Oath using Allahโs Name ๏ฃin lies and deception. It is an oath that dips the person in sin for it is usually done in order to overtake unlawful monies, or wrongly accusing a person, or to escape punishment. Islam repeatedly imparts truthfulness and honesty. The Prophet ๏ง said: โAllah decrees Hell Fire and debars Jannah for the one who usurps the rights of a believer by taking a false oath.” One man asked: “O Messenger of Allah! Even if it should be for an insignificant thing?” He said, โEven if it be a stick of the Arak tree (siwak stick).โ(4) The Prophet also said: โThe gravest of sins are associating anyone with Allah, the disobedience to parents, the killing of a person, and the wrongful oath.โ(5) It is called a dipping oath because of how deep it drags the sinner in Hell for intentionally and knowingly using Allahโs Name ๏ฃ in lies and deception.
7- The Seventh Great Sin: Defaming Innocent Chaste Men and Women
Defaming Innocent Chaste Men and Women and creating gossip that tarnishes their reputation without producing four witnesses. This means speaking ill of people and accusing them of fornication and illicit relationships without providing four witnesses to the claims. This includes the swearing and cursing that attack peopleโs honor or the honor of their mothers or sisters. Abu Huraira relayed from the Prophet ๏ง the saying: โAvoid the seven great destructive sins.” and people asked, “O Allah’s Messenger! What are those?” He answered, “To associate partners with Allah; to practice sorcery; to kill the life which Allah has forbidden except for a just cause (according to Islamic law); to eat up usury (Riba), to consume the property of an orphan; to give one’s back to the enemy and fleeing from the battlefield at the time of fighting and to accuse chaste women who never even think of anything touching chastity and are good believers.” (6) Believers should therefore stay away from using foul language and accusations and defaming others as these acts cause harm and injustice.
8- The Eighth Great Sin: Sorcery and Witchcraft
This includes resorting to sorcerers and witch craft ers for any reason or excuse, as the end does not justify the means in any way. Sorcery is one of the gravest of sins, and it always results in harm to the doer and to the requester even after a while. Allah ๏ฃ said: ๏ดพA sorcerer shall never thrive, come whence he may๏ดฟ(7)
The Prophet ๏ง said: โAvoid the seven great destructive sins.”and people asked, “O Allah’s Messenger! What are those?” He answered, “โฆ.and sorcery…โ.(8) And whether the motive of the witchcraft is to separate couples as Allah said in the Quran: โby which they caused discord between man and wifeโ(9) or whether the motive is apparently benevolent such as wives complaining to a witch craft er about the lack of love of her husband and asks him to produce a formula to increase his love to her, this all is still one of the gravest sins. In fact,
sorcery and witchcraft is only possible through collaboration with devils who oft en require grave payback such as denying his faith in Allah ๏ฃ.

From One Seed to Seven Hundred: The Power of Giving
Building on our last blog about The Economic Strategy of Umar ibn Abdul Aziz โฆ.
2. The Revival of Islamic Welfare: A Holistic Economic System
Beyond individual salaries, Umar II revived and expanded Islamic welfare programs that had been neglected by his predecessors. His system ensured that no one remained in need, as the state played a central role in wealth distribution.
Key Welfare Policies Implemented by Umar II
- Rebuilding the Zakat System: A Solution to Poverty
- Umar II revived zakat as a structured government policy, ensuring that it was:
- Collected fairlyย from those eligible.
- Distributed efficientlyย among the poor.
- He forbade hoarding of wealth, urging zakat collectors to seek out beneficiaries instead of waiting for them to ask.
- Umar II revived zakat as a structured government policy, ensuring that it was:
- State-Sponsored Business Support for the Poor
- Umar II recognized that long-term prosperity required empowering the poor economically.
- Instead of just giving financial aid, he allocated capital and resourcesย to help people start businesses, farming, and trades.
- He invested in interest-free loans, particularly for farmers and small traders, allowing them to grow their income.
- Public Infrastructure to Support Economic Growth
- He built wells, roads, and markets, ensuring rural communities had access to trade and employment.
- Agricultural land that was left uncultivatedย was offered to farmers with government support, increasing food production.
- Eradication of Begging and Financial Desperation
- The efficiency of Umar IIโs economic policies was so profound that in some regions, zakat collectors could not find anyone eligible for zakatย because poverty was eliminated.
- A report from his administration stated:“No one remained in need to accept charity.”
How Can We Apply This Today?
โ Strengthen zakat and sadaqah programs by making them part of structured community initiatives rather than random donations.

- O Allah, unite our hearts, mend our relationships, guide us to the paths of peace, save us from darkness into light, and keep us away from all forms of immoralityโboth apparent and hidden. Bless our hearing, our sight, our hearts, our spouses, and our children. Accept our repentance, for You are the Most Forgiving, the Most Merciful. Make us grateful for Your blessings, praising You for them, accepting them, and completing them upon us.
- O Allah, Lord of the heavens and the earth, and the Lord of the Mighty Throne, our Lord and the Lord of everything, the One who splits the grain and the seed, the One who sent down the Torah, the Gospel, and the Qur’an, I seek refuge in You from the evil of everything under Your control. O Allah, You are the First, and there is nothing before You. You are the Last, and there is nothing after You. You are the Most High, and there is nothing above You. You are the Most Near, and there is nothing beyond You. Settle our debts for us and free us from poverty.
- O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, and I seek refuge in You from knowledge that does not benefit. O Allah, grant me wisdom in my affairs and protect me from the evil within myself.
- O Allah, Lord of Jibreel, Mika’il, and Israfil, I seek refuge in You from the heat of the Fire and the torment of the grave.
- O Allah, purify me from sins and mistakes. O Allah, cleanse me from them as a white garment is cleansed from dirt. O Allah, purify me with snow, hail, and cold water.
- O Allah, grant me Your love and the love of those whose love benefits me with You.
- O Allah, benefit me with what You have taught me, teach me what will benefit me, and increase me in knowledge.
- O Allah, I seek refuge in You from associating anything with You knowingly, and I seek Your forgiveness for what I do unknowingly.
- O Allah, grant me deep understanding of religion.
- O Allah, I ask You for Paradise, and I seek refuge in You from the Fire.
Ameen
