The Greatest of Sins
Seventy Sins that Allah Likes That We Forsake
THE GREAT SINS: These are fifty-three (53)
18- The Eighteenth Great Sin: Forsaking or Delaying Prayers
Anyone who misses a prayer and does not perform it later has committed one of the gravest of sins. However, if one has missed a prayer without excuse and has performed it late would have committed a great sin for performing a prayer outside of its timing. Therefore, every abandoned prayer is a great sin, let alone not praying at all. Allah has said: ﴾What has brought you into (Saqar) the fire of Hell, they shall reply: we were not among those who prayed﴿(1). Saqar is a name given to hellfire. Delaying prayer cannot be excused except if forgotten or delayed by error or sleeping or losing consciousness. The muslim should ensure he is awake for prayer by using all the means for that, such as alarms, and truthful intention to pray (fajr for example that should be performed before sunrise). However, when he does not intend to pray fajr on time, he would have committed a great sin. In case of travel, the muslim may group the prayers of duhr and asr together and Maghreb and isha together, whether early grouping or late grouping based on the rules mentioned in the books of jurisprudence. Parents should encourage their children to pray with all means possible as soon as the age of seven, they should insist on that at the age of ten. The sin of not working hard to make children pray from the age of ten and above is in fact no diff erent from withdrawing children from school and stopping their education. Therefore, parents should follow up with their children and encourage them to perform the five prayers just as carefully as they would follow up on their school homework. Allah has said: ﴾And enjoin prayer
upon your family and be steadfast therein﴿(2). It is worth noting that there is a punishment for those who speed up prayer, and perform it automatically without completing proper bowing and prostration, and pray fast in a way that does not allow the body and diff erent organs to find peace in the prayer. Such practice leads to losing presence and awareness, which is crucial for the purpose of prayers. It is also a great sin not to perform past prayers that count for months and years and not starting to compensate them as soon as possible, in fact it is important to compensate for those past prayers by praying one additional day on a daily basis until all past prayers are completed.
19- The Nineteenth Great Sin: Withholding the Alms
This happens by not calculating the alms correctly per the Islamic Law, or paying less than is due. The alms due annually is 2.5% of the whole capital and not of the profi ts only. All conditions and details and exceptions may be found in the books of jurisprudence. In fact, abstaining from paying the alms out of avarice or greed is one of the greatest of sins and the ugliest crimes. Al Bukhari has narrated from Abi Huraira that the Prophet said: ”whoever is made wealthy by Allah and does not pay the due Alms (Zakat) of his wealth, then on the Day of Resurrection his wealth will appear to him as a bald headed snake with two poisonous glands that will encircle his neck and bite his cheeks and say: I am your wealth; I am your treasure, then he recited the verse: “and let not those who covetously withhold of that which Allah has bestowed upon them of His Bounty”(3). This hadith refers to the verse:﴾Let not those who covetously withhold of what Allah has bestowed upon them of His Bounty think that it is good for them. Indeed, it will be worse for them; the things which covetously withheld shall be tied to their necks like a collar on the Day of Resurrection, and to Allah belongs the Heritage of the Heavens and the Earth, and Allah is well acquainted with what you do﴿.(4)
This is the punishment of withholding zakat in the erafter, however, in this world, punishment for this sin can take various shapes. In fact, Abdullah Ibn Buraidah has narrated from his father that the Prophet said: “Whenever people withheld Zakat, they were afflicted with years of drought and famine”.(5) The Prophet also said: ”They have not withheld the Zakat of their wealth without being deprived rain, and if it were not for the animals, the rain would not have descended upon them.”(6).
There is also the legal punishment inflicted by a governor or his representative. The Prophet said: “He who pays zakat with the intention of getting a reward will be rewarded. But he who
evades it, we shall take it from him and half of his property…”.(7).
Zakat should be paid in the eight different channels mentioned in the verse: ﴾Alms are only for the poor and the destitute, for those who collect zakat, for conciliating people’s hearts, for freeing slaves, for those in debt, for spending for Allah’s cause and for travelers in need. It is a legal obligation enjoined by Allah, Allah is All-knowing and Wise﴿.(8)
Whoever has missed paying Zakat before should plan to compensate it as an obligation.
20- The Twentieth Great Sin: Not Fasting a Day of Ramadan Without Valid Excuse
Abstaining from fast on a day of Ramadan without an excuse is a great sin, and whoever has broken fast in Ramadan without excuse should abstain from food and drink until sunset. He bears sin with every bite and every sip or other source of fast breaking elements. In that context, it is not permissible to break fast for an exam or for work. It is permissible to break fast for serious illness and not a slight headache or a cold. Any days not fasted in previous years should be compensated prior to the following Ramadan.

From One Seed to Seven Hundred: The Power of Giving
Refugees arrive in the U.S. carrying the weight of pre-migration trauma—war, displacement, loss of loved ones, and years of instability. Their journey is marked by hardship, often leaving behind everything familiar in search of safety and a new beginning. Yet, arrival does not mean the end of their struggles.
In the U.S., they face new barriers: language difficulties, cultural adaptation, financial instability, and the challenge of rebuilding their lives from scratch. Many struggle to find employment due to a lack of recognized credentials, while others endure loneliness and isolation in an unfamiliar society. For refugee mothers, the burden is even heavier, as they navigate childcare without affordable daycare options, making it harder to work and provide for their families.
As a community, we have a duty to support them. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
"The best of people are those who are most beneficial to others." (Al-Muʻjam al-Awsaṭ)
By donating, you provide a lifeline, helping refugee families pay rent, access food, find jobs, and build a stable future. Your support is not just charity; it is an act of love, mercy, and solidarity.
✨ Give today. Be the reason a family finds hope again. ✨

The Hizb Al-Ishraq
By Our Master Abu Al-Hasan Al-Shadhili
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
The light of Allah has shone, the word of Allah has appeared, the command of Allah is established, and the decree of Allah is executed. I seek help from Allah, I place my trust in Allah. What Allah wills shall be, and there is no power nor strength except with Allah. I take refuge in the hidden grace of Allah, in the subtlety of His craftsmanship, in the beauty of His covering, in the majesty of His protection, in the greatness of His remembrance, and in the strength of His dominion. I enter into the care of Allah and seek refuge with the Messenger of Allah. I absolve myself of my own power and strength and seek the power and strength of Allah.
O Allah, shield me in my soul, my faith, my family, my wealth, and my children with the covering You have veiled Yourself with, so that no eye can see You, nor can any hand reach You. O Most Merciful of the merciful, O Lord of the worlds, protect me from the wrongdoing people by Your power, O Strong, O Firm, O Most Merciful of the merciful. In You, we seek assistance.
O Allah, the One who provides sustenance, the One who hears every sound, the One who clothes the bones with flesh after death, overpower my enemies and grant me refuge from the disgrace of this world and the torment of the Hereafter. There is no power nor strength except with Allah, the Most High, the Most Great.
May blessings and peace be upon our Master Muhammad, the Seal of the Prophets, and upon his family and companions, in abundant and eternal salutations until the Day of Judgment. And all praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all worlds.
