The Greatest of Sins
Seventy Sins that Allah Likes That We Forsake
Building on the last blog about The Greatest of Sins ….
The HANDS are home for two of the greatest of sins
12- The Twelfth Great Sin: Stealing
Stealing has been prohibited in the Quran, and the verse indicating this prohibition is: ﴾Cut off the hands of thieves, whether they are male or female, as a punishment from Allah for what they have done and a prevention of stealing. Allah is Almighty and
Wise﴿(1). The two Sahihs and other references mentioned that the Prophet said: “Allah has cursed the thief, he steals an egg and his hand is off , and he steals a rope and his hand is cut off ”. (2)
Al Aamash said: “They used to consider those eggs as the iron eggs, and that rope as worth a few dirhams.” Abu Huraira may Allah be pleased with him also narrated that the Prophet said: “The fornicator is not a believer at the moment of fornication, nor is the drinker of intoxicants at the moment of drinking, nor is the thief at the moment of theft ”.(3)
13-The Thirteenth Great Sin: Murder: Killing a Soul Unlawfully
Killing a soul unlawfully is one of the gravest sins, and that includes spreading calamity and crime through social media, encouraging violence and transmitting hate that leads to killing based on race and sectarian differences. Allah said: ﴾Whoever kills a believer deliberately, he shall be rewarded with eternal Hell. Allah will condemn him and reject him, and prepare for him a terrible punishment﴿. (4) Abu Saeed and Abu Huraira narrated that the Prophet said: “If the inhabitants of the heavens and earth all gathered and shed the blood of a believer, Allah would cast them all in hellfire” (5)
Al Bara’ Bin Aazeb narrated that the Prophet said: “The destruction of the world is easier on Allah than the unlawful killing of a believer”.(6)
Abu Huraira relayed that the Prophet said: “He who throws himself from a mountain and kills himself will be in Hellfire falling down into it and remaining therein for eternity and forever, and he who drinks poison and kills himself would sip this poison in Hellfire where he is doomed for eternity and forever, and he who kills himself with a rod of steel would be continually thrusting it in his stomach in Hellfi re where he is doomed for eternity and
forever”.(7)

From One Seed to Seven Hundred: The Power of Giving
🌙 Giving in the Last 10 Nights: Seeking the Blessings of Laylatul Qadr 🌙
As we enter the last 10 nights of Ramadan, we expose ourselves to the greatest opportunity of the year, Laylatul Qadr, the Night of Decree. Allah tells us in the Qur’an:
"Laylatul Qadr is better than a thousand months." (Surah Al-Qadr 97:3)
That’s over 84 years of worship, a lifetime of rewards in just one night! Every prayer, every act of kindness, and every charity given on this night is multiplied beyond our imagination.
This night is not only about rewards, but it is a night of peace:
"Peace it is until the emergence of dawn." (Surah Al-Qadr 97:5)
The peace of Laylatul Qadr is not just in the heavens but descends upon our hearts, homes, and communities. In a world filled with hardship, anxiety, and instability, we are in dire need of this peace, on an individual, family, and societal level.
One of the most powerful ways to seek this peace is through giving. The Prophet ﷺ said:
"The best charity is that given in Ramadan." (Tirmidhi)

The Victory Litany (Hizb al-Nasr) by Abu al-Hasan al-Shadhili
O Allah, by the might of Your overwhelming power, by the swiftness of Your victorious aid, by Your divine jealousy for the violation of Your sanctities, and by Your protection of those who seek refuge in Your verses, we ask You—O Allah, O All-Hearing, O Near One, O Answerer, O Swift One, O Compeller, O Avenger, O All-Conquering, O Severely Punishing One, O You who are never hindered by the tyranny of tyrants nor overwhelmed by the destruction of rebellious kings and emperors—make the plot of those who plot against me fall upon them, turn the schemes of those who scheme against me back upon them, and let the pit dug for me be the very trap in which they fall.
Whoever sets a deceptive trap for me, let them be led into it, ensnared within it, and imprisoned by it.
O Allah, by the mystery of Kaf-Ha-Ya-‘Ayn-Sad, protect us from our enemies, meet them with destruction, and make them a ransom for those we love. Strike them with swift punishment today and tomorrow.
O Allah, scatter their unity, O Allah, disperse their assembly, O Allah, diminish their numbers, O Allah, blunt their weapons, O Allah, turn the tide against them, O Allah, send torment upon them, O Allah, remove them from Your mercy, deprive them of respite, bind their hands and feet, seal their hearts, and never grant them their hopes.
O Allah, tear them apart as You have torn apart Your enemies in victory for Your prophets, messengers, and saints. O Allah, grant us victory as You grant victory to Your beloved ones over their enemies. O Allah, do not let our enemies overpower us, nor grant them authority over us due to our sins.
Ha-Meem, Ha-Meem, Ha-Meem, Ha-Meem, Ha-Meem, Ha-Meem, Ha-Meem—The decree is sealed, victory has arrived, and they shall not prevail over us. Ha-Meem-‘Ayn-Seen-Qaf—our shield from what we fear.
O Allah, protect us from misfortunes, do not make us a target for tribulations, and grant us hope beyond our aspirations.
O Hu, O Hu, O Hu! O You who is asked by virtue of Your grace, we ask You: haste, haste! O Hu, O Hu, O Hu! O You who is asked by virtue of Your grace, we ask You: haste, haste!
O Lord of response! O Lord of response! O Lord of response!
O You who answered Noah in his people’s midst, O You who granted victory to Abraham over his enemies, O You who returned Joseph to Jacob, O You who removed Job’s suffering, O You who answered the supplication of Zechariah, O You who accepted the praise of Jonah son of Matta, we beseech You, O Allah, by the secrets of those whose prayers were accepted, to accept from us what we have prayed for, to grant us what we have asked, and to fulfill Your promise to Your believing servants:
"There is no god but You, Glory be to You, truly I was among the wrongdoers."
Our hopes are severed except by You, our reliance is cut off except upon You. If the aid of creation is delayed and connections are severed, then the closest aid to us is the aid of Allah.
O Divine Aid, come swiftly to untie our bonds, O Divine Aid!
The oppressors have transgressed, they have wronged, and we turn to Allah as our Defender.
Sufficient for us is Allah as a Guardian, sufficient for us is Allah as a Helper.
Allah is enough for us, and He is the Best Disposer of affairs. There is no power nor strength except with Allah, the Most High, the Most Great.
Answer us, Ameen, Ameen, Ameen!
Thus, the wrongdoers were cut off, and all praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds.
Ameen
