The Essence of Fasting and Its Purpose
What should I do if I commit a sin?
If you have committed a sin you have to do three things:
1- Regret and ask Allah for forgiveness and ask Him to remove the love of that sin from your heart, then pledge to never return to it. Then you should put every eff ort to stay away from it. But if you fall for it again, you should regret again and repent and ask for forgiveness and that repeatedly as many times as your return to it.
The Prophet relayed to us that Allah said: “A servant has committed a sin and said: O Allah forgive my sin. And He said: My servant has committed a sin and has known that he has a Lord who forgives sins and punishes for them. Then he sinned again and said: O Lord, forgive my sin. And He said: My servant has committed a sin and has known that he has a Lord who forgives sins and punishes for them. Th en he sinned again and said: O Lord, forgive my sin. And He said: My servant has committed a sin and has known that he has a Lord who forgives sins and punishes for sins. Do what you wish, for I have forgiven you.”(1) Abdul Aala said: I am unsure whether he said “Do what you wish” after the third or the fourth time.
Imam Al Nawawi explained this hadith that as long as you persistently repent from sins you commit, they are forgiven. Imam Al Nawawi also said on the topic of repetitive sins and repetitive repentance that all the related hadiths indicate that even if the sin is repeated a hundred or a thousand times and there was repentance after each time, they are forgiven and pardoned, and even if the sinner repents one time after all those times, the repentance is still valid. Al Hassan Al Basri - may Allah have mercy on him, was once asked: Should the person not feel ashamed from his Lord that his sins were forgiven then repeated then forgiven and repeated? Al Hassan Al Basri answered: Satan wishes he was granted that, so do not stop repenting. In fact, one of the most dangerous effect of Satan on man is to whisper to him: Stop disrespecting your Lord! Until when will you be sinning and repenting? Stop repenting until you become capable of repentance and fit for it. Our answer should be: May you never reach what you are aiming for, O enemy of Allah! My Lord forgives the sins and does not mind, Allah is never tired of repeated repentance and forgiveness. Every incidence of repentance is actually a new attempt to abandon the sin, and if we persevere, the day will come when Allah grants you victory over your Self and your evil.
2- Follow up the sin with a good deed or an act of obedience such as charity or fasting. And some of the best things you may do after repentance and seeking forgiveness is to invoke blessings on the Prophet for example by saying: ‘Oh Allah bestow blessings and greetings of peace on our master Mohammad and his family and companions.’ A hundred or two or three hundred times or more. Satan wants to guide you from light to darkness through your sin, but if you invoke blessings on the Prophet , Allah would guide you from darkness to light. Allah says: ﴾It is He who sends blessings to you, as do His angels, so that He may bring you out of the darkness into the light. He is most merciful to the believers﴿.(2)
3- Identify one of the virtues of the Prophet Mohammad in the list and work on implementing it, such as comforting the heart of someone or working on attending to a person’s needs, or defending a person or honoring the mother and father or maintaining the connections of ties of kinship, or working on treating a partner with goodness or keeping a promise…
The Prophet said: “Follow-up a bad deed with a good one to wipe it out and treat people with goodness”.(3) Remember the story of the prostitute from the Sons of Israel, who was forgiven by Allah because she showed mercy on a dog and gave him water. Th is story indicates that Allah shows mercy on the ones who show mercy to others, which means attending to his needs without considering this a favor and without following it with hurtful words.
To sum up, if you sin you are requested to do three things:
1- To feel remorse and seek forgiveness and to resolve on
repentance;
2- To invoke blessings on the Prophet g from one to three hundred
times or more;
3- To choose a Prophetic Virtue and implement it.

Dua for Rizq (Provision)
O Allah, cast in my heart Your hope and cut off my hope from anyone but You, so that I do not hope anyone else but You. O Allah, whatever is beyond my ability and beyond my actions, what I have not been able to achieve, what I have not yet attained, and what has not been expressed by my tongue, grant me it, O Lord of the Worlds.
O Lord of the seven heavens and the earth, and of the mighty Throne, our Lord and the Lord of everything, the One who splits the seeds and the pits, and the One who revealed the Torah, the Gospel, and the Qur'an. I seek refuge in You from the evil of everything You have taken control of. You are the First, and there is nothing before You; You are the Last, and there is nothing after You; You are the Manifest, and there is nothing above You; You are the Hidden, and there is nothing beneath You. Settle our debts and enrich us from poverty.
O Allah, enrich us with what is lawful and protect us from the unlawful, and take care of us as You are the Most Merciful of the merciful. O Generous One, O You with vast mercy, You who knows the secrets, thoughts, and desires of hearts, nothing escapes You. I ask You for the overflow of Your grace, a handful of the light of Your sovereignty, comfort, and relief from the ocean of Your generosity. You hold all affairs in Your hand, and You control all things. Grant us that which pleases our hearts and make us independent of anyone but You. You are the Generous, the Abundant, and the Good, and we are standing at Your door, waiting for Your generous blessings.
O Allah, the Sustainer of the seekers, the Merciful to the poor, the Possessor of great strength, the Best of helpers, the Guardian of the believers, and the Helper of the distressed, we worship You, and we seek Your help. O Allah, I ask You for abundant and pure sustenance. O You who relieves burdens, O You who fulfills needs, fulfill my need, relieve my anxiety, and provide for me from where I do not expect. O Allah, provide me with abundant, lawful, and good sustenance without effort, and accept my prayer without rejection. I seek refuge in You from poverty and debt.
O Allah, You are the Lord of the heavens and the earth, and everything bows before You. We praise You, the One who humbles all things with Your greatness, the One who controls all things with Your power. Bless our Prophet Muhammad and his family and companions.
O Allah, provide me with vast and lawful sustenance, and accept my prayer without refusal. I seek refuge in You from the two shameful things: poverty and debt. O Allah, You are the Sustainer of the seekers, the Merciful to the poor, and the Best of helpers. Provide for me, O Most Merciful of the merciful. O Allah, remove every affliction, You who knows all hidden matters, and relieves all burdens. Help me in my time of dire need, my strength is weakened, my resources are depleted, and I call upon You in distress. O Allah, help me and be merciful to me, with Your assistance.
We praise You, O Allah, Who never forgets those who remember You, and Who never disappoints those who hope in You. Whoever relies on You is sufficient, and whoever trusts in You will never be forsaken. You are our trust when our hopes fade. You are our hope when our strength and efforts fall short.
Seeking forgiveness: Allah, the Almighty, said: "Say, 'Ask forgiveness from your Lord. Indeed, He is the Forgiving. He will send [rain from] the sky upon you in showers and give you increase in wealth and children and provide for you gardens and rivers. Why do you not hope for reward from Allah, when He created you in stages?' " (Quran 71:10-14).
O Allah, make my sustenance easy for me, and protect me from greed, weariness, worry, and humiliation in front of people. O Allah, provide for me lawful sustenance and hasten it for me, O Best Responder to prayers.
Ameen
